Wounds of the daily grind
are put into words
that shine with loneliness.
Yet, the sheen
of someone else's sadness
takes its time to cut through.
My armor of good times
has to thin itself for that feat.

What did you mean by "Empathy is often table manners"? If you're not given to explaining lines of your poem, I understand of course.

I meant that empathy is often not really meant. It is brandished as some sort of etiquette. Especially people at a party saying "So sad".
