What's in front of me

Is a deserted queen bee
In an empty hive
pondering, the buzz of silence.

The abandoned home looks turned over
Exposed and naked
Like the truth behind the lies.

The queen waits in refusal now
Still enchained to the throne
And hears her own buzz
In the increasing coldness of the night.

I couldn't help but think of what has happened with so many honey bees in the US (around the world? I'm not sure) and how the colonies are dying.

But I also thought of vanity and how ego craves the adoration even after others have woken up and moved on.

A real sadness and foreboding here... with the queen in refusal and the nights getting colder the future seems very gloomy.
